How To Care for your Cutting Board
- Wash with mild soap and water when needed.
- Dry immediately with towel. Air dry.
- Rub with a good cutting board wax to rejuvenate the wood and maintain cell structure. (Don’t use cooking, furniture, lemon, orange oils; or Murphy’s Oil Soap because they may become rancid or tacky.)
- Never soak your board in water or put in the dishwasher or microwave.
- If you get a little fuzz on the wood with the first cleaning, a light sanding eliminates it.
- If you want to remove knife marks from your board, simply sand with 150 grit sandpaper using a block sander followed by 220 grit paper and finally 400 grit. Wax your board before using.
There are many good cutting board and butcher block waxes or conditioners - such as Three Beautiful Bees or John Boos - with natural ingredients like beeswax, mineral oil, and linseed oil.
With minimal care, you will preserve the appearance and have many years of service and satisfaction.
